High Density Cooling - The Case for Liquid Cooling
This paper will explore opportunities to realize energy savings in data center chilled water systems through
the use of close-coupled, closed-loop, water-cooled IT equipment cabinets. Energy usage of the chiller
plant will be examined, identifying potential energy savings afforded by varying chilled water supply
temperatures. Further, the paper will look at “free cooling” opportunities, using water-side economizers in
conjunction with water-cooled cabinets to further expand energy savings potential.
